The contribution of academics from Universitas Gadjah Mada, particularly from the Faculty of Agriculture, was highlighted in a strategic discussion on strengthening the national food system through their participation in a focus group discussion (FGD) organized by Badan Pengawasan Keuangan dan Pembangunan. The FGD, titled “From Intervention to Independence: Assessing the Sustainability of KSPEAN as a Foundation for National Food System Independence,” was held on April 28–29, 2026, at the BPKP Regional Office of the Special Region of Yogyakarta.
In this forum, Gilang Wirakusuma, a lecturer in the Economics and Agribusiness Program (EPA), Faculty of Agriculture UGM, delivered a presentation entitled “Empirical Analysis and Operational Factors Determining the Sustainability of Food Production Center Areas.” His presentation highlighted various operational factors influencing the sustainability of food production centers, including challenges at the field level and technical variables that affect long-term production continuity.
In addition, Subejo, Professor of Agricultural Extension and Communication at UGM, contributed a theoretical perspective through his presentation titled “The Evolution of Paradigms and Structural Determinants of the Sustainability of Food Production Center Areas.” He emphasized the importance of paradigm shifts and structural factors in shaping the sustainability of food production areas.
The participation of these academics enriched the discussion process within the FGD, which aimed to formulate policy directions for transitioning from intervention-based approaches toward a more independent and sustainable national food system. The event also served as a platform for BPKP’s internal team to strengthen their understanding of supervisory functions in supporting sustainable food security.
The FGD was attended both offline and online by Directors and Topic Contributors within BPKP, reflecting a collective effort to produce more comprehensive policy recommendations.
