The AIMS Fall 2025 program stands as a valuable international academic experience that contributes significantly to students’ global competence and academic development. Hosana Adel Ivory, a student of the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness (EPA) Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), batch of 2022, had the opportunity to participate in this student exchange program during the odd semester of the 2025 academic year, from September 2025 to January 2026. The program was hosted by Ibaraki University, located in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, and involved students from the Faculty of Agriculture UGM across the 2022 and 2023 cohorts.

During the program, Hosana participated in academic activities by attending lectures given by professors from Ibaraki University and guest lecturers from the University of Tsukuba. This cross-institutional learning environment provided a broader academic perspective, particularly in the fields of agriculture and agribusiness. The program was more than just schoolwork; it was also a chance for students to fully experience Japanese culture and make connections with people from other countries. Hosana also connected with fellow Indonesian students through the Indonesian Student Association in Ibaraki Prefecture, strengthening a sense of community abroad.

The journey toward participating in the AIMS program began with the application preparation phase in February 2025. After successfully passing the selection process and being awarded as a program participant, Hosana proceeded with administrative preparations, including obtaining a passport, visa, and official acceptance letter from the host university. Both the sending and host universities played an active role in facilitating the preparation process, ensuring a smooth transition for students prior to their departure to Japan in September 2025.
The AIMS Fall 2025 program is also closely aligned with several of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality education, SDG 10: Reduced inequalities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the goals.
Overall, this program provides academic benefits and fosters students’ character, helping them become adaptable, open-minded, and ready to face future global challenges.
