Yogyakarta, April 17, 2025 – Universitas Gadjah Mada has held a Professor Inauguration ceremony for Prof. Dr. Jamhari, S.P., M.P. as a Professor in Agricultural Marketing Science. The event was held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the Senate Hall of Universitas Gadjah Mada.
In his inaugural speech entitled “Agricultural Marketing as an Accelerator of Agribusiness Development and Improvement of Farmers’ Welfare,” Prof. Dr. Jamhari, S.P., M.P. explained that the auction market has a vital role in improving marketing efficiency by shortening the distribution chain. This allows farmers to connect directly with large buyers so that price transmission between consumers and producers runs effectively and reduces price distortions.
Agricultural marketing plays a crucial role in agribusiness, as it connects producers and consumers and increases added value through efficient processing, branding, and distribution. In addition, good marketing can expand markets, stabilize prices, reduce price fluctuations, meet consumer preferences through market research, encourage innovation, and increase global competitiveness by meeting national and international standards. However, agricultural marketing still faces challenges, such as long marketing chains, market imbalances, price fluctuations, market risks, weak farmer institutions, ineffective government policies, and limited access to digital technology in rural areas.
This inauguration is a proud achievement and an essential milestone in Prof. Jamhari’s academic journey. His dedication, integrity, and commitment to developing agricultural marketing science show how significant his role is in building a more efficient, fair, and highly competitive agricultural product marketing system in the era of globalization.
As part of the academic community, the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program hopes that Prof. Jamhari will continue to be an inspiration and role model in science, education, and community service. Hopefully, with this inauguration, he will be more enthusiastic about guiding students, generating innovative ideas, and strengthening his contribution to developing the national agricultural and agribusiness sectors.
Amidst increasingly complex global challenges and opportunities, Prof. Jamhari’s contributions to improving agricultural marketing systems are instrumental in creating a more sustainable, equitable, and productive farming system. Through these efforts, he supports the welfare of farmers and promotes inclusive and environmentally friendly development for a better future.
Once again, congratulations on this extraordinary achievement, Prof. Jamhari. May the knowledge and dedication you provide bring wide benefits to the academic world and the advancement of Indonesian agriculture.
