Lecturers from the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness (EPA) Study Program, Agus Dwi Nugroho, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., and Arif Wahyu Widada, S.P., M.Sc., participated in the “Business Incubator Consultant” Training and Certification held by the Indonesian Management Forum (FMI) in Yogyakarta on July 31 – August 2, 2025. This activity is part of staff development efforts focused on improving lecturers’ competencies in entrepreneurship and business incubator-based MSME assistance. This staff development program is one of the implementations of the Impactful Campus Competition Program (PKKB) from the Higher Education Database Center (PDDIKTI).
For three days, participants underwent intensive training on the following:
– business problem identification
– Business Model Canvas (BMC) preparation
– SWOT analysis
– Business idea design and market research
– MSME financing and financial reporting management.
As part of the certification process, participants were required to compile a comprehensive portfolio, including an incubator institution profile, business mentoring documentation, business idea proposals, and tenant financial reports. The event concluded with a competency test that assessed participants’ practical abilities in applying business mentoring concepts in the field.
This activity encourages lecturers to connect theory with real-world business practices, particularly in the context of strengthening the agricultural and agribusiness sectors. The training provides broad insights into how business incubators can drive the development of MSMEs, including modern farming and agro-industries, which are currently growing rapidly. This activity has a direct impact on strengthening the agricultural and agribusiness economy, as the business incubator concept encourages farmers to transform into adaptive, innovative, and highly competitive agribusiness entrepreneurs.
For lecturers, this certification enhances their professional capacity and credibility in guiding and consulting SMEs and students who are developing business ideas. Meanwhile, for students, the results of this activity open up more applicable learning opportunities in entrepreneurship courses and community service activities involving the farming world.
Through this activity, the UGM EPA Study Program remains committed to developing human resources that have a tangible impact on society, aligning with UGM’s mission to cultivate sociopreneurs in agriculture and agribusiness. This staff development activity aligns with the spirit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the following goals: Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth, Goal 9: Industry, innovation, and infrastructure, and Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production.
