Yogyakarta, February 10, 2026 – Gadjah Mada University held the Professorial Inauguration Ceremony for Prof. Dr. Jangkung Handoyo Mulyo, M.Ec, as a Full Professor in the Field of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management. This moment marks an important milestone in his academic journey and in his scholarly contributions to the development of Indonesia’s agricultural economy.

In his inaugural address, Prof. Jangkung emphasized that food self-sufficiency is a strategic foundation for national sovereignty and welfare. Food is not merely viewed as an economic commodity but also possesses strong social, political, and cultural dimensions. Amid global uncertainties such as climate change, supply chain disruptions, and price fluctuations, a self-reliant food system is key to ensuring a country does not depend on external parties. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of improving farmers’ welfare through enhanced market access, more efficient input costs, and adequate infrastructure support, using a cross-sectoral approach. read more

Guest Lecture on Agricultural Business: From the Banking Sector to Sustainable Agriculture

The Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness (EPA) at the Faculty of Agriculture once again hosted a Guest Lecture on Agricultural Business on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Under the theme “Quitting the Bank to Realize Sustainable Agriculture,” the event featured Mr. Theodorus Dedy Tri Kuncoro, S.Si, CEO of PT Bhumee Artani Nusantara, as the guest speaker. The lecture was moderated by Pinjung Nawang Sari, S.P., M.Sc., and attended by undergraduate students from the EPA program’s 2025 cohort. read more

Guest Lecture for Agribusiness Management Course: Multitasking Media & Word of Mouth in Modern Marketing

Yogyakarta, November 26, 2025 – The Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture UGM, held a Guest Lecture for the Agribusiness Management Course, featuring Prof. Wirawan Dony Dahana from The University of Osaka, Japan, as the guest speaker. This guest lecture, themed “Consumer Behavior,” aimed to enhance students’ understanding of modern marketing dynamics, particularly regarding consumer behavior in the digital age.

In his presentation titled “Marketing in the Digital Age: The Role of Media Multitasking and Word of Mouth,” Prof. Dony introduced the concept of Media Multitasking (MM), which refers to the simultaneous use of two or more media and its impact on advertising effectiveness, consumer visits to sales sites, and purchasing decisions. He emphasized that the influence of MM is not always negative. Research results show that the impact of multitasking greatly depends on consumer motives, such as efficiency, control over information, information needs, and habits. Analysis using a latent model shows that each motive produces different responses to advertising exposure, advertising repetition frequency, and media consumption context. read more

Analyzing Ireland’s Economic Transformation through an Input-Output Approach in a Regional Economics Guest Lecture

Yogyakarta, November 5, 2025 – The UGM Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program held a guest lecture for the Regional Economics course. The lecture carried the theme “Structural Changes in the Irish Economy 1926-2020: An Input-Output Analysis” with Prof. Cathal O’Donoghue, Professor of Public and Social Policy, University of Galway, Ireland, as the guest speaker.

In this guest lecture, Prof. Cathal began by introducing the basic concepts of value chains and input-output analysis. The value chain begins with the provision of raw materials, production, distribution, and sales services, to generate added value for consumers. In today’s economy, the value chain involves interactions between various sectors, giving rise to input-output relationships. Prof. Cathal explained the input-output (IO) model, which shows the multiplier effect when demand for inputs in a sector increases and involves inter-regional interactions. read more

Realizing Sustainable Agriculture through the Concept of Sustainable Value Chain

Yogyakarta, November 5, 2025 – The Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a guest lecture in the Agricultural Economics course. The lecture focused on the theme “The Concept of Sustainable Value Chains in Agriculture,” featuring Dr. Adhitya Marendra Kiloes, a Postdoctoral Researcher at The University of Queensland.

In his lecture, Dr. Adhitya emphasized the importance of integrating economic, social, and environmental aspects, known as the triple bottom line principle, as a strategy for achieving a sustainable value chain in the agricultural sector. Students were encouraged to understand how to manage agricultural value chains efficiently and inclusively through innovation, public-private partnerships, and technology, adding value for businesses, communities, and the environment, and achieving resilient, climate-adaptive agriculture. read more

EPA UGM Community Service Encourages Nawungan I to Develop Agrotourism Based on Local Potential

Yogyakarta, October 15, 2025 — The Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM, has carried out a community service activity in Nawungan I Hamlet, Selopamioro Village, Imogiri District, Bantul Regency. This activity is part of the Agricultural Socio-Economics Department Grant program. It is an effort by the EPA Study Program to encourage community empowerment by developing local agribusiness potential. The community service activity, entitled “Utilizing the Potential of Nawungan 1 Hamlet as an Agricultural and Rural Tourism Destination,” was inspired by the hamlet’s great potential to develop agrotourism based on agriculture and local culture. read more

Strengthening the Capacity of EPA Lecturers in Human Resource Management Towards Excellent and Competitive Agribusiness

In an effort to strengthen the capacity of lecturers in the field of human resource management (HRM), the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness (EPA) Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, assigned two of its lecturers, Asih Kusumaningsih, S.P., M.Sc., and Pinjung Nawang Sari, S.P., M.Sc., to participate in the HR Manager Training and Certification program organized by a professional training institution in Yogyakarta.

The training was held on August 14–15, 2025, in person at the Malyhabara Hotel, Yogyakarta, with A. Noegroho Driprijanto, an experienced practitioner in the field of HR management, as the instructor. The activity continued with the BNSP Human Resource Manager Scheme certification on August 22, 2025, which was conducted online with assessor Dr. Aditya Nanda Priyatama, S.Psi., M.Si. read more

Enhancing Entrepreneurship Capacity, UGM EPA Lecturers Achieve Business Incubator Consultant Certification

Lecturers from the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness (EPA) Study Program, Agus Dwi Nugroho, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., and Arif Wahyu Widada, S.P., M.Sc., participated in the “Business Incubator Consultant” Training and Certification held by the Indonesian Management Forum (FMI) in Yogyakarta on July 31 – August 2, 2025. This activity is part of staff development efforts focused on improving lecturers’ competencies in entrepreneurship and business incubator-based MSME assistance. This staff development program is one of the implementations of the Impactful Campus Competition Program (PKKB) from the Higher Education Database Center (PDDIKTI). read more
