Yogyakarta, October 20, 2025 – The Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada held a guest lecture for the Business Analysis and Agricultural Projects course. The lecture focused on the theme “Circular Economy Practices in the Horticultural Business”, featuring a speaker from the Secretary of the Deputy for Food, Natural Resources, and the Environment at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, Ms. Puspita Suryaningtyas, S.P., MBA, MGES.

In this guest lecture, the speaker shared insights on the application of circular economy principles in the horticultural sector. Ms. Puspita emphasized the importance of agricultural waste management, supply chain efficiency, and innovation in resource reuse as key strategies for achieving a sustainable farming system.

Ms. Puspita also stated that, by 2030, Indonesia’s circular economy is projected to increase GDP by around Rp593-Rp638 trillion, create 4.4 million jobs, reduce waste by 18-52%, and contribute to a reduction in GHG emissions of 126 million tons of CO2.

Through this guest lecture, students are expected to broaden their knowledge and deepen their understanding of circular economy concepts in the horticulture sector, integrating sustainability principles into their future business analyses and agricultural projects.

In addition, this guest lecture contributes to the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 4: Quality Education, by improving students’ understanding of sustainable innovation in the agricultural sector. SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – encouraging efficient and environmentally friendly production and consumption practices. SDG 13: Climate Action – supporting climate change mitigation efforts through sustainable resource management.

This activity also supports the implementation of the 2025 Impactful Campus Competition Program (PKKB) from the Higher Education Database Center (PDDIKTI), which aims to improve the quality of learning based on current development issues and strengthen student contributions in realizing a resilient and environmentally friendly agricultural system.
